Abstract
- • Effects of EF on seed germination, growth and physiology of plant were summarized. • The response of positive physiological and resistance to EF was discussed. • Opportunity of interaction, regulation and application for EKAP system are proposed. With the electrokinetic assisted plant (EKAP) systems attracted extensive attention and the prevalence of soil particle interface electric fields, this review gathered and analyzed about effect characteristics and response of electric fields on plant to deepen the understanding of electric field-plant interactions mechanisms and clarify future research directions. Electric fields main affect the seed germination, growth, physiology and tolerance behavior of plant, and it is widely used in heavy metals, organic pollution remediation and agricultural cultivation. Electric fields can rapid break seed dormancy and increase seed germination by improving free to bound water ratio, enzyme activity, stored material hydrolytic and membrane permeability of seed. Plant response to electric fields is double-edged. Electric fields regulate positive physiological like photosynthesis, secondary active substances and cell structure to promote plant growth, yield and pollutants purification. But excessive electric field effects can also adversely affect plants, which are alleviated by enhanced antioxidant enzyme activity, ascorbic acid cycle and osmoregulation. The electric field application strategies, electrical response molecular mechanisms of plants, and regulation mechanisms of the plant key substances synthesis and accumulation under electric field need to be further researched to promote the EKAP application in breeding, environmental protection and agricultural cultivation.
