Abstract
- The article discusses ventilator-induced lung injury (VILI), which refers to the lung damage caused by mechanical ventilation. The different types of VILI, including barotrauma, volutrauma, atelectrauma, biotrauma, and ergotrauma, are explained. The article also explores the pathogenesis of VILI in healthy and injured lungs, as well as the assessment and clinical approach to VILI. The authors argue for a broader definition of VILI to include all direct and indirect pathological changes caused by mechanical ventilation. [Extracted from the article]
