Abstract

Apple has warned its European customers that new EU competition laws will make iPhones less safe once the company is forced to open up its platforms to third-party App Stores. In a 32-page white paper, Apple outlines the risks arising from the EU's Digital Markets Act (DMA), which includes support for third-party app stores and alternative payment systems. Apple argues that these changes will make its platforms less secure, potentially exposing users to threats such as social engineering, fake apps, scam apps, spyware, and ransomware. While Apple is working to maintain user security and privacy, it acknowledges that the protections available to EU users may be different from those outside the EU. [Extracted from the article]
