Management of nutritional support in patients undergoing noninvasive mechanical ventilation (NIMV) in respiratory intensive care units (r-ICU) is still a challenge and it’s a topic not often discussed among respiratory physician. Our article summarizes the state of the art, with the aim to give the physician a view of the status of the art and some practical advice. In our article, we will discuss energy expenditure, that can be used to assess patient’s nutritional needs, and possible strategies for nutritional support (oral intake, enteral or parenteral nutrition).
