Abstract

The Society of Toxicology has awarded the Paper of the Year to a study titled "Increased renal expression of complement components in patients with liver diseases: nonalcoholic steatohepatitis, alcohol-associated, viral hepatitis, and alcohol-viral combination." The study examined the impact of liver dysfunction on renal physiology and identified overlapping renal expression changes across different liver disease etiologies. The findings provide insight into the mechanisms of renal dysfunction associated with chronic liver disease. Two other papers received Honorable Mention, one exploring the impact of particulate matter exposure on foam cell formation in atherosclerosis and the other investigating the effects of developmental exposure to environmental chemicals on CD8+ T cell function during influenza A virus infection. These studies contribute to our understanding of toxicological effects and offer potential strategies for intervention. [Extracted from the article]
