Abstract

A dispute over leadership within the Michigan Republican Party is causing confusion and division ahead of the state's presidential primary. In January, a group of Republicans voted to remove state GOP Chair Kristina Karamo, who had failed to meet fundraising goals. Former congressman Pete Hoekstra was appointed as her replacement, but Karamo and her supporters argue that the ousting was illegitimate and that she is still in power. As a result, two separate conventions are scheduled to award delegates, one in Detroit and one in Grand Rapids. The matter is currently being decided in court, with a ruling expected soon.
