Abstract

In this article from Resurgence & Ecologist, Annabel Heseltine explores a Romanian national park created by two wolf biologists, Christoph and Barbara Promberger. The couple established the park in response to illegal logging and to protect the large carnivores and biodiversity in the area. The park, known as the Făgăraș Mountains, is part of the Southern Carpathian range and is home to wolves, brown bears, and lynx. The Prombergers have faced challenges in gaining the support of local communities, but they have implemented various strategies to bring economic wealth to the region through tourism, education, and wildlife restoration. The couple's efforts have been supported by private donors and organizations like the European Nature Trust. [Extracted from the article]
