Abstract

Abortion, which we often know as the act of aborting a pregnancy, is basically an act that is prohibited in Indonesia. In the Criminal Code, regulations regarding abortion are included in the chapter on crimes against life. Abortion is still a debate for groups that adopt pro-life and prochoice ideology. The increasing maternal mortality rate, the International Conference on Population and Development in Cairo, 1994 and the Fourth World Conference on Women in Beijing, 1995 made efforts to maintain women's reproductive health, as well as reduce the practice of illegal abortions which were carried out unsafely and were not carried out. by professional medical personnel. This reason then gave rise to an exception to the prohibition on abortion, namely in Article 75 paragraph (2) of Law Number 36 of 2009 concerning Health, which states that abortion may be carried out for reasons of medical emergency indications and pregnancy due to rape.
