Abstract

Low temperature metal hydrides are promising materials for thermal energy storage devices in climatic-oriented niches. Different alloy compositions are prepared and investigated to reach high reversible capacity and heat of formation. Al-substituted alloys show wide plateau region with narrow plateau slope resulted in high reversible capacity up to 1.33 wt% H 2. Alloy LaNi 4.6 Mn 0.2 Al 0.2 with the highest enthalpy change of 35.9 kJ/mol H 2 during hydrogen sorption investigations could be a promising candidate for further TES system investigations. • Low temperature LaNi 5 based alloys are proposed for TES. • High heats of formation are achieved by partial Ni substitution. • The highest capacity reaches 1.33 %wt. H 2 for LaNi 4.75 Al 0.25 • The highest ΔH abs is 35.9 kJ/mol H 2 for LaNi 4.6 Mn 0.2 Al 0.2. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
