Abstract

The Transplant Trial Watch is a monthly overview of 10 new randomized controlled trials (RCTs) and systematic reviews in organ transplantation. The first article discussed in the summary focuses on the biological alterations that occur in deceased donor kidneys during standard non-oxygenated versus oxygenated hypothermic machine perfusion (HMP). The study analyzed perfusate samples collected in the COMPARE study and identified protein changes in relation to the duration of perfusion and kidney function at 12 months. The second article examines a pilot study investigating the efficacy and safety of belatacept, a T-cell co-stimulation blocker, following lung transplantation. The study was stopped after recruiting 27 patients due to excess mortality in the belatacept arm, suggesting that the risk of belatacept in lung transplant recipients outweighs any potential benefit.
