Abstract

Dansyl chloride has been widely used in metal ion recognition as a fluorescent sensing molecule. The interaction between fluorescent probes and metal ions is summarized, and the research progress in the structural design of dansyl group receptors in the field of metal ion fluorescent probes since 2010 is discussed. Its sensing mechanism involves intramolecular induced photoelectron transfer, charge transfer, dimethylamino deprotonation/protonation, formation of monomer-excitation complex, chelate-enhanced fluorescence transfer, complexation reaction, fluorescence resonance energy transfer, and other ones. The rules of the fluorescent responses of dansyl group under various mechanisms are also discussed, such as fluorescence quenching induced by intramolecular charge transfer and chelation triggered fluorescence enhancement. The future application trends of dansyl group in the field of fluorescent probe design are proposed as well. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
