Abstract

This article discusses the use of extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) as a treatment for respiratory failure in young patients. The study examines whether there are differences in outcomes between teenagers and young adults who receive ECMO. The researchers analyzed data from the International Registry of the Extracorporeal Life Support Organization and found that young adults had a higher survival rate compared to teenagers. The study also identified differences in pre-ECMO factors and management during ECMO between the two groups. The authors highlight the need for further research to determine optimal management strategies for these patients. [Extracted from the article]
