Abstract

This paper presents IoT sensing node for Fe2O3 optical detection in liquid oil suspensions. The IoT node is based on LoRaWAN data transmission standard. The sensing node uses an optical detector for absorption index estimation in the liquid oil suspension depending on Fe2O3 content variation. The studies performed were in the wavelength range from 600 to 900 nm, where the most significant changes in the absorption spectrograms were observed. The obtained results can be used to detect contaminants in the composition of liquid insulation materials in small quantities. These contaminations are early indicators for possible malfunctioning and major failure in future. The applied photo-optical method is available for direct measurement of the optical properties of liquid insulating materials, also for continuous monitoring and online diagnostics of equipment without interrupting their normal operation.
