Abstract

In order to identify the efficacy of both electroencephalographic recording and the evaluation of cortisol in saliva under stress, we conducted an orderly and explicit systematic review of the most recent scientific literature on these topics through critical analysis. We reviewed studies evaluating acute and chronic stress. This review focused on the male population because this is a scarcely studied group, and stress seems associated with various clinical and social problems such as aggression, violence, and addictions. We finally present a qualitative summary of the scientific evidence and a discussion on using these techniques as reliable biomarkers. Results reaffirm the importance of assessing stress in its acute or chronic form since they support results obtained by psychometric instruments. Results also support the evidence of the effects of interventions used to evaluate and treat this disorder. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
