Abstract

Rotary electric discharge machining (REDM) is modification of traditional EDM in order to deploy rotating tool electrode suitable for improving performance characteristics such as surface finish. Cryogenic treatment of tool electrodes and work materials may also improve the machining performance of EDM process. The current study reports the influence of important control parameters on surface roughness of while cryogenic treated copper electrode was used for machining of cryogenic treated alloy Monel-400 alloy in rotary EDM process. The one factor at a time (OFAT) approach was used to conduct the experiments to investigate the effect of input variables such as current, pulse on time; duty cycle on surface roughness. SEM examination was also conducted to understand machined surfaces produced by rotary and stationary tool electrode. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
