Abstract

The materials which are widely used for construction of the building industry are concrete. But the production of cement releases numerous amounts of greenhouse gases (CO2) that leads to increase in global warming. So, an alternative to cement has to be identified. The current research focuses on the use of mineral admixtures such as fly ash, rice husk ash, and silica fume in place of cement in concrete with the addition of coir fibre. The mechanical properties of the specimens were studied with percentage replacement of cement with various mineral admixtures. With the optimum results flexural behaviour of reinforced concrete were studied. Reinforced concrete beams with percentage replacement of silica fume offered better load carrying capacity.
