Abstract

[Display omitted] • Amphiphilic PS-PMMA Janus particles with a distinct morphology were synthesized. • Stabilized Pickering emulsions were prepared using Janus particles. • PS-PMMA is easy to synthesize, inexpensive, and ideal for large-scale production. In this study, two kinds of Polystyrene - Poly(methyl methacrylate) (PS-PMMA) Janus particles with different particle sizes were synthesized via emulsion phase separation using a rotary evaporator. These Janus particles exhibit a distinctive morphology; one side is smooth and crater-like while the other is concave and sprouting. An interplay between device rotation, system stabilization, material hydrophilicity, and strength variation produces this unique morphology. These particles are cost-effective and easy to synthesize, making them ideal for versatile applications in advanced materials. They can form stable Pickering emulsions with liquid paraffin and distilled water, showing remarkable stability and suitability for large-scale production. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
