Abstract

Born in 1938 in Berința, Maramureș, Augustin Buzura is one of the most significant Romanian prose writers of the 20th century. He is often referred to as the "writer-conscience" of his time. Buzura's writing draws inspiration from the people, places, and mythology of his native region, as well as elements of its history. His works often explore themes of fear, wolves, harsh winters, and strange occurrences. Apart from what is known and written about Augustin Buzura's life, his family from Berința still has memories, stories, and unpublished documents about his childhood and youth, which will be released soon in the book "Buzura la Berința". The book extracts information from these documents and highlights the author's relationship with the wilderness, forest, and wolves. In the last century, the community of Berința was deeply influenced by the legends, stories, and fears surrounding wolves, which are portrayed subjectively in the text, always connected with Augustin Buzura's work and life.
