Abstract

The article discusses the underutilization of ambulatory blood pressure monitoring (ABPM) in patients with childhood-onset systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE). ABPM has been shown to have advantages over clinic blood pressure measurements, but its use in patients with childhood-onset SLE is low, despite the known cardiovascular risk associated with the condition. The article presents data from a nationally representative sample and a single-center cohort, highlighting the discrepancy between the prevalence of potential ABPM indications and the actual utilization of ABPM in patients with childhood-onset SLE. The authors emphasize the need for multidisciplinary approaches to improve cardiovascular outcomes in this population and call for further research on the optimal timing and frequency of ABPM. They also highlight the importance of understanding barriers to the uptake of ABPM in order to effectively improve cardiovascular health in this population. [Extracted from the article]
