Abstract

Permanent repairs to the Sanibel Causeway in Florida have been completed 105 days after Hurricane Ian caused significant damage. The joint-venture team of Superior Construction and the De Moya Group completed the repairs, which included demolishing existing roadway asphalt and base, concrete barrier walls, and bridge approach slab areas. The project leaders attribute the speed of the repairs to a "phased design-build" approach that allowed for concurrent design and construction activities. The causeway roadway has been elevated and protected with a buried steel sheet pile wall system, concrete bulkhead, and riprap stone. [Extracted from the article]
