Abstract

Babaī Rebellion was a religious, political, and social uprising stirred up in Anatolia in 1240 by Bābā Ilyās-i Khurāsānī and Baba Isḥāq, one of his caliphs, against the Seljuk rule due to its mismanagement. This uprising, which lasted for centuries, was the biggest Turkmen uprising in Anatolian Seljuk history and caused the Anatolian Seljuk State to fall under the yoke of the Mongol Empire. The rebellion, which constitutes an important place in the political and social history of Anatolia, is also a starting point in terms of analysing and understanding the popular movements in the history of Turkey and especially Alevism and Bektashism, which are discussed today, with a decent approach [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
