Abstract

Several polymeric blends of epoxy (EP) and unsaturated polyester (UPE) have been prepared with different proportions (100%EP+0%UPE, 80%EP+20%UPE, 60%EP+40%UPE, 40%EP+60%UPE, 20%EP+80%UPE and 0%EP+100%UPE), the impact strength, compressibility, and hardness were tested for these polymeric blends, the best polymeric blends were selected (80%EP+20%UPE) based on the on results test of impact strength (10.31 kJ/m2), compressibility (18.98734 MPa) and hardness (69.8). The nanopowder of pistachio shells in different ratios (1%, 2%, and 3%) reinforced the blend (80% EP+20% UPE). The impact strength, compressibility, and hardness were testing for these composites, and through these tests; it was found that the polymer blend (80%EP+20%UPE) reinforced with the nanopowder of pistachio shells in ratios (1%), obtained the highest Compressive Strength. The best compound is the one reinforced by the ratio (3%) as this ratio improved the impact strength to (93.01KJ/m2) and hardness to (81.7). This composite can be used to paint wooden furniture.
