This article discusses the importance of addressing climate change in the context of peri-operative medicine and sustainable healthcare. It emphasizes the need for clinicians to take action and provides an up-to-date synthesis of science, data, and international expertise on sustainable healthcare. The article covers various topics, including the controversy surrounding volatile anaesthetic agents, the potential for innovation in volatile capture technology, reducing unwarranted variation in clinical practice, and applying sustainable practices to different anaesthetic subspecialties. The perspectives of atmospheric scientists, surgeons, and patients are also included.
