Abstract

This article discusses the neuroscience of creativity and provides insights into how individuals and teams can ignite inspiration and innovation. The author challenges the traditional approach of brainstorming, which has been shown to produce mediocre ideas and unintentional groupthink. The article identifies barriers to creativity, such as inflexibility, control, fear, and egotism, and suggests methods to boost creativity, including maintaining high levels of neurotransmitters like serotonin and dopamine, purging negative thoughts, reframing stress, trying new experiences, consuming creativity from various sources, cultivating creative relationships, and staying curious. The article also offers practical tips for developing one's creative muscle, such as minimizing distractions, embracing uncertainty, establishing focusing rituals, and changing work environments.
