Abstract
- The experiment aimed to investigate the effects of tetramethyl pyrazine on the growth performance, organ index, blood physiological index and antioxidant function of mice. Seventy-two healthy male mice were randomly divided into 6 groups of 12 mice each, namely blank (K) group, test group 1, group 2, group 3, grouP 4 and group 5, and acclimatized for 5 d. Mice in the blank group were given 0.2 mL/10 g body weight of 0.8% sodium carboxymethylcellulose solution, and the mice in groups 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5 were gavaged with 50, 100, 150, 200 mg/kg and 250 mg/kg body weight of tetramethyl pyrazine for 14 d. After the last gavage of tetramethyl pyrazine solution for 24 h, blood was taken from the ophthalmic vein plexus of the mice and subsequently executed, and the heart, liver, spleen, lungs and kidneys were collected. The organs were weighed and the organ indices were calculated. Blood physiological parameters were measured; the activities of aspartate aminotransferase (AST) and alanine transaminase (ALT) in serum were measured, and the biochemical parameters of reduced glutathione (GSH), malondialdehyde (MDA), total superoxide dismutase (T-SOD), total antioxidant capacity (T-AOC). The results showed that there was no significant difference in body weight and organ index at the end of the test between each test group and the blank group of mice (P>0.05); compared with the blank group, there were significant differences in the number of leukocytes and lymphocytes in test groups 1, 2, 3 and 4 (P<0.05), and the percentage of lymphocytes in test groups 1, 2 and 4 (P<0.05); compared with the blank group, the compared with the blank group, test groups 3 and 4 could significantly reduce the serum ALT activity of mice (P< 0.05); compared with the blank group, test groups 3 and 4 could significantly increase the serum GSH content (P<0.05), test groups 2, 3, 4 and 5 could significantly increase the serum T-SOD content (P< 0.05), test groups 3, 4 and 5 could significantly increase the serum T-AOC content (P<0.05), and the test groups 2, 3, 4 and 5 reduced the increase of MDA in serum (P<0.05). Compared with the blank group, test groups 1, 2, 3 and 4 significantly increased GSH and T-SOD levels in liver tissues (P<0.05); test group 3 significantly decreased MDA levels (P<0.05). This shows that tetramethyl pyrazine can significantly improve the anti-coagulant ability and antioxidant capacity of mice, with the most significant effect when administered at 150 mg/kg.
