Abstract
- The paper examines a study of the Prešov doctor and pharmacist, diplomat and mayor Johannes Weber as a virtuous ruler. The study, bearing the title Janus Bifrons. Seu Speculum Physico-Politicum. Das ist Natürlicher Regenten-Spiegel (durch Johannem Weber bey Ablegung seines Richter-Ampts des 1661 Jahres in Eperies für gestellet), is a type of "physiological-political mirror" and was published in 1662 by the Brewer printery in Levoča. It is written in German, supplemented by Latin and forms the first part of a political trilogy. In it Weber describes the qualities a ruler should possess and compares them to the various parts of the human body. The analyzed text presents numerous parallels with modern times. The aim of this article is to show how Weber describes violence, peace and neutrality, how he argues and connects them with moral values, and which means of expression are used in characterizing politics, violence, war and peace.
