Abstract

This article presents the emerging findings of a doctoral research, in a specific aspect of it, focused on identifying the perceptions some university students, enrolled in the BA in Foreign Languages of a public university in Medellín (Antioquia), have about citizenship training. A total of 23-third semester students of the degree program, with prior informed consent, answered an open-ended question questionnaire applied in the classroom based on qualitative research procedures. The findings allow us to identify that regarding the participating students' perception, citizenship education is structured along the following thematic lines: 1) it is assumed as fundamental knowledge and as education in society; 2) it has an emphasis on teaching and learning; 3) it is supported by community and values in favor of peaceful coexistence; 4) it is favored thanks to pedagogical and didactic aspects - content and interactive strategies- and by the relationship with a foreign language, culture, daily life, and coexistence.
