Abstract
- A proposed protocol for selecting living kidney donors with diabetes has been criticized for excluding over 99% of people with diabetes. While people with diabetes are generally not considered suitable candidates for kidney donation due to the risk of chronic kidney disease (CKD), there is variation in CKD risk among individuals with diabetes. The proposed guidelines suggest excluding individuals with evidence of end organ damage or an unacceptable lifetime risk of complications. However, the criteria are seen as too restrictive and would effectively remove almost all individuals with diabetes. Further research is needed to identify appropriate criteria for selecting potential donors with diabetes. [Extracted from the article]
