Abstract

This article examines the potential connection between antiestrogen agents (AEAs) and a specific type of osteoarthritis (OA) in patients with breast cancer. The study focuses on 21 female patients in Cali, Colombia, who received AEAs and developed symptomatic arthropathy. The researchers found that AEAs may be associated with estrogen-dependent polyarticular OA, with joint pain commonly affecting the knees, shoulders, hands, and spine. The study utilized clinical and imaging data to characterize this type of arthropathy, but acknowledges the need for further research to understand the underlying mechanisms and develop new treatments.
