Abstract

Farmed honey is a food and therapeutic product that comes from beekeeping. For this reason, its processing must be carried out in a legalized establishment in order to guarantee food quality and safety. The objective of this research was to analyze the production of farmed honey in the region of the "lavrado" in the Brazilian Amazon. Beekeepers were selected using the chain recruitment technique and the data collection instrument was the use of forms. Among the respondents, 37% process and sell farmed honey illegally. Beekeeping in Roraima has proved itself to be a productive activity, but the correct management of honey and application of current legislation affect the recognition of the product at the national level. The illegal sale of honey persists, both due to lack of supervision by government agencies, and due to the distance to the official honey processing centers. This situation harms the health of consumers, in addition to affecting the integrity of the demographic census conducted by the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE).
