DIÁSPORA, PRODUÇÃO E CIRCULAÇÃO DE CONHECIMENTOS NO ATLÂNTICO: AS CONTRIBUIÇÕES DE UM AÇORIANO PARA O ENTENDIMENTO DA GEOGRAFIA DO SUL DO BRASIL (1750-1781).

In the Azorean diaspora, legacies in the production and dissemination of geographic knowledge can be identified. The understanding of the geography of South America in the second half of the 18th century was expanded due to the explorations, mapping, data collection and production of information carried out by a migrant from Faial. In general, historiography focuses on the migration of couples and their stable forms of settlement in the adopted territory. However, the Azorean diaspora had a wave of single emigrants, as was the case of Antonio da Silveira Peixoto. Through his letters, official correspondence, royal officials and maps from military engineers, the phenomenon of production and circulation of knowledge on the geography of southern Brazil will be observed with the aim of contributing to a more inclusive history of this topic and in the intersection with the history of migration itself.
