Abstract

After 1975, Vietnam experienced a series of dramatic changes in social class structure, and these changes continue to have strong impacts in the present period. A significant change is the emergence of a growing middle-class, and this class tends to have an essential role in economic development, as seen in many countries around the world (ADB, 2011). However, studies of the theoretical significance of the middle-class exploring practical applications of the concept in Vietnam are still quite limited. By integrating quantitative and qualitative research, this article analyses the characteristics and factors affecting the occupation of middle-class groups in Ho Chi Minh City (Vietnam).
