Abstract

On the Colombian Pacific coast there is a complex of islands and islets with an approximate height of 90 to 338 meters above sea level (masl), declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO, forged by various geotectonic processes between the Pacific oceanic plates. (current Nazca) and South American; made up of sedimentary, volcanosedimentary and igneous rocks. This research aims to analyze the petrography and diagenesis of the heterolithic clastic sequence associated with the Cretaceous-Paleogene boundary of Gorgonilla Island: a contribution to the geological knowledge of the Colombian Pacific. Leading to the conclusion that the petrography reflects a compositional variation, bimodal behaviors, high affinity with the basement rocks of the island, processes of changes in the source and reworking within the basin. The ease of optical recognition of the constituents that make up these rocks indicate a low degree of alteration, no significant postdepositional changes and early diagenetic processes.
