Abstract

This article discusses the anesthesia used in the separation of conjoined twins who were joined at the umbilicus (omphalopagus). The article highlights the rarity of this case and the relatively good prospects of success, with an 80% survival rate for isolated omphalopagus. The article describes the involvement of pediatric anesthesiology in the twins' care, including the use of magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) for planning the operation and the management of airway challenges. The article also discusses the preparations made by the pediatric anesthesiology team for the separation surgery, including interdisciplinary meetings and a simulation trial. The article emphasizes the importance of precise preoperative planning, simulation, and interdisciplinary collaboration in the successful management of conjoined twins. [Extracted from the article]
