Abstract

The article discusses the need for an additional listing-determination category under the United States' Endangered Species Act (ESA) in response to ongoing climate change. The ESA aims to protect and recover imperiled animal and plant species and their ecosystems. Currently, the ESA does not explicitly consider climate change in listing determinations. The article highlights the decline of the native Yellowstone cutthroat trout population as an example of the challenges faced by species under climate change. The author suggests the inclusion of a new category that acknowledges the inefficacy of adaptation strategies for species in the face of climate change. [Extracted from the article]
