Abstract

Transparency is an increasingly valued aspect in Western journalism in recent decades. Its adoption implies changes in journalists’ behavior – such as their willingness to disclose aspects of their procedures – and requires a posture of greater public openness from the media. In Brazil, self-proclaimed independent media outlets emphasize their commitment to promoting more transparent journalism. In this paper, we analyze the cases of Agência Pública and The Intercept Brasil, based on 18 indicators from three categories of transparency: organizational/editorial, financial and public participation. In the end, the results made it possible to identify transparency efforts, gaps and potentials, but also elements that help to identify visibility strategies that distinguish these media from others.
