Abstract

Objective To comprehensively assess the correlation between obstructive sleep apnea ( OSA) and the incidence of erectile dysfunction(ED). Method The pertinent literature regarding the association between OSA and ED was systematically retrieved from databases including Scopus, Cochrane Library, PubMed, Ovid MEDLINE, Wanfang, and CNKI. The search timeframe encompassed the period from database inception up until December 19, 2022. Following thorough literature screening, data extraction, and bias risk evaluation conducted by two researchers, a meta-analysis was conducted. Results A total of nineteen articles comprising 116 419 cases were included in the analysis. The results of the meta-analysis demonstrated a statistically significant association between OSA and an increased risk of ED, with individuals suffering from OSA being 2. 52 times more likely to develop ED compared to those without OSA [ OR = 2. 52, 95% CI ( 1. 69, 3.75), P <0. 001]. Notably, Subgroup analysis indicated a significant association between OSA and ED in the European, small sample size, non-polysomnographic OSA evaluation tool, and database origin subgroups.
