This research analyses two cases: the actions of the lawyers Pedro José Agrelo and Gregorio Tagle, who remained in political leadership in Río de la Plata, despite the crisis of central power in 1820. From opposing positions, both intervened publicly and acted as referents of their respective spaces. Through the analysis of their practices and discourses, the aim is to provide knowledge about the role of these scholars in the period in question, the functioning of the socio-political networks that supported them and the particularities of their actions in the context of the war and the crisis of institutionalism in the territory. For this purpose, the sources used are the libels and manifestos of the time, together with government documents and the unpublished memoirs of Pedro José Agrelo, preserved in the General Archive of the Argentine Nation.
