Abstract
- "Graphic Indigeneity: Comics in the Americas and Australasia" is an anthology edited by Frederick Luis Aldama that showcases the work of Indigenous artists in the comics medium. The book explores contemporary works by Indigenous artists from Turtle Island (North America), Tawantinsuyu (the land of the Incas), Anahuac (Mexico and Central America), and Australasia. It also examines the traditionally racist depictions of Indigenous peoples in comics. The anthology highlights the use of comics as a medium for Indigenous creators to reach both Indigenous and non-Indigenous audiences, and it addresses important themes such as feminism, empowerment, and the abuse of Indigenous women and girls. The book provides a comprehensive overview of the study of Indigenous comics and representations of Indigenous peoples, but it is noted that more analysis by scholars from Indigenous nations is needed in this field.
