Abstract

The Matanuska-Susitna Valley in south-central Alaska is a region characterized by its natural beauty and interconnectedness between the sky, landscape, and atmosphere. Bounded by the Alaska Range and the Talkeetna Mountains, the valley is home to the Susitna River and the Matanuska River, both of which are fed by glacial meltwater and flow into the Cook Inlet. The region experiences a subarctic climate with short summers and long, frigid winters, and receives significant precipitation and snowfall. The Matanuska Valley is known for its vibrant agriculture, with nutrient-rich soil and ample water and daylight during the growing season. The valley has a rich history of farming, dating back to the early 1900s. [Extracted from the article]
