Abstract

The article reports on the approval granted by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to Florida to import drugs from Canada at lower prices. It identifies hurdles to drug importation including agreements of drug makers with Canadian wholesalers not to export medicines, plan of the Pharmaceutical Research and Manufacturers of America to file a suit, and safety concerns. It refers to generic competition and government failure to negotiate over cost as the causes of high drug prices.
