Abstract

The Vaupés, a distant region on the border of Colombia and Brazil, occupied mainly by indigenous population, only had the benefits of air connection late. This issue, explored through printed and visual sources, allows us to conclude that the flights not only allowed sustaining the arrival of goods to maintain extractive activities, but also the evangelization work of Catholics and Protestants and that additionally they generated new population flows and effects on native populations. Even today the airway is still the best means of communication with the Vaupés in both countries, but also the most expensive and a means to continue with the extraction of other raw materials.
