CULTURA E CIVILIZAÇÃO NA AMAZÔNIA: O LÉXICO MODERNO NO PENSAMENTO DE JOSÉ VERÍSSIMO (1857-1916).

This paper analyzes the way of the modern lexicon culture and civilization in the historical-ethnographic thought of José Veríssimo (1857-1916). Thus, it was argued that miscegenation is the reading key Veríssimo ponders the amazonian society as a comprehensive way of life between civilization and barbarism. This key faced the issue of the formation of nationality, by proposing the Amazonian point of view in the coordinates of Brazilian miscegenation: tapuio as a national element in the Amazon.
