Abstract

Children's publishing disrupts the imaginary museum, not only through small collections that encourage an almost holy relationship to artwork through a contemplative practice, but also by proposing new, exemplary meeting spaces for contemporary reflection on issues of museology. This article will offer a typology of these viewpoints in attempting to theorize their relationship with narrativity: our hypothesis is that these viewpoints follow three main interpretative methods, when considering the time of the art's conception (the artwork has a story), the time of exhibition (the artwork tells a story) and the time of reception (the artwork tells my story). We next look at several representative examples, analyzing the way in which the same work can be the subject of distinct methodology both in its intention and outcome; from this analysis we will consider certain issues on the particular role of children's picture books in the processes of cultural transmission.
