Abstract

The article explores the protests and dissent that occurred at the University of Valle in Colombia in the early 1970s. Students at the university went on strike to object to funding from local and international elites, criticizing wealth inequality, imperialism, and the limitations of development within a capitalist system. The architecture school at the university played a significant role in organizing and leading the protests. The article discusses the relationship between architecture, international development, and student activism, highlighting the ways in which students contested elite visions and reshaped the physical space of the university.
