Abstract
- The construction industry is always seeking ways to optimize building materials for better performance and efficiency. One of the ways to achieve this is through the use of voided concrete slabs. Voided concrete slabs have been used to reduce the weight of concrete structures, while maintaining their structural integrity. These slabs have a lower weight compared to traditional concrete slabs and they are therefore more efficient in terms of material usage and handling during construction. The use of traditional concrete slabs in construction is not sustainable due to its high carbon footprint and heavy weight, which results in higher construction costs. The aim of this study is to investigate the production of voided concrete slabs using geopolymer technology for more sustainable and cost-effective alternative to traditional concrete slabs. In recent years, geopolymer technology has been utilized in the production of voided concrete slabs. The aim of this study is to explore the performance of voided concrete slabs utilizing geopolymer technology. The study evaluates the density, compressive and flexural strength of slabs and compares the results to traditional concrete slabs. The results of the testing show that geopolymer voided concrete slabs have a lower density and a higher compressive strength and flexural strength compared to traditional concrete slabs.
