Abstract

Hypertrophy of the tensor fascia lata muscle is a rare pseudotumor that may present as a well-defined soft tissue mass of the antero-lateral thigh. Although clinical appearances may resemble a soft tissue tumour such as a lipoma or sarcoma, this finding is usually a result of chronic abductor muscle deficiency. An important clinical examination finding is that the mass becomes firm and well defined with hip flexion or hip adduction. MRI is the best imaging modality to characterise this lesion, and recommended treatment is with gluteal muscle strengthening. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
