Abstract

Introduction: Intuitive eating is based on physiological signals to know what, when and how much to eat. This approach is based on 10 principles that seek to respect internal hunger and satiety signals, instead of eating according to situational and emotional changes. Objective: The present study aimed to evaluate the correlation between intuitive eating and body appreciation in university students in the state of Minas Gerais. Materials and Methods: The research was a cross-sectional study with a quantitative design, with the application of three types of questionnaires, answered only by university women aged 18 to 35 years in the state of Minas Gerais. Data refer to social and demographic characteristics, eating behavior and body image were obtained through tests: Form previously created for sociodemographic classification, Intuitive Eating Scale - 2 (IES - 2) and Body Appreciation Scale - 2 (BAS - 2), in the validated version in Portuguese. Results: The findings revealed that individuals with higher BMI had lower body appreciation and lower levels of intuitive eating. In addition, intuitive eating and body appreciation were positively associated with each other, indicating that the greater the body appreciation, the more intuitively the individual tends to eat. Conclusion: It is concluded that individuals who practice intuitive eating tend to have higher levels of body appreciation and lower BMI. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
