Abstract

This article explores the use of technology in congregational worship, specifically focusing on electronic projection systems and streaming/recording services. It notes that the adoption of these technologies is more common in predominantly white Protestant congregations and varies based on factors such as size, financial resources, technological experience, and cultural factors. While larger congregations with more resources are more likely to incorporate technologies like streaming and smartphone apps, Catholic congregations are less likely to do so. The use of smartphones during worship is encouraged by about one-third of all congregations, primarily for accessing scripture. Ultimately, the decision to incorporate technology in worship services is made by congregational leaders based on their mission and community traditions. [Extracted from the article]
