Abstract
- Fundamentally natural phenomena of convection-diffusion are modeled in various engineering disciplines and physical sciences. In computational fluid dynamics, solving numerically the model equations require a proper meshing scheme. Poor solutions as spurious oscillations, over-or under-predictions, and excessive computation time might be the results of unwitting application of the scheme. This paper highlights the significance of the influence of flow parameters on mesh structure in convection-diffusion equation with quadratic source. Particularly, it proposes an effective method in choosing low Peclet number-based mesh expansion factor from a linear logarithmic model. Both mathematically connected non-dimensional parameters thus serve as a guideline for a more structured decision-making and improves the empirical process in choosing the computational domain mesh for the numerical solution of convection-diffusion equations with quadratic source particularly in the calculation of scalar concentration. The new method's effectiveness is confirmed by the profiles of the concentration. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
